Tips and Tricks with Digis

Hi all! I thought I'd share how I make my dotted backgrounds. I think they are so fun and make images really pop. I have only used copics for this technique. First, I color my image. I used Two Cute Rabbits and boy, are they!

Then I start with my lightest color and randomly add dots all around the image. I purposely make them closer together around the edges of the image for shading. I typically use complimentary colors for my dotted background, or something that will match the designer paper I use on my project. I try not to be heavy-handed when making my dots but you'll still get a few that are bigger than others and that's ok! Another thing I love about this technique is you really cannot mess it up!

Then I go to my medium shade. I'll make fewer dots as each marker gets darker. Again, focusing on more immediately around the edges.

Then I use a third shade and add even fewer dots. It's more of an accent color.

Here are the Copics I used:

And here's the finished card!

And a close up... ;)

Thanks for stopping by! I sure hope you'll give it a try!!!

Getting the Most of Our Dies Tutorial - Part 6

Hello and happy Monday, YNS fans! This is Thanh and I hope you had a great weekend with your families and friends! Just a quick reminder that there's currently an Easter promotion at the YNS Store right now and you can get 25% off your entire purchase.

I hope that you've been enjoying our Series of playing with YNS dies so far. Today I'm going to show you a great way to use your dies as stencils. Looking around at projects in blogland, stencils are hot right now! As someone who was unsure of stencils, I figured I would save a few dollars and create my own to see how I enjoyed the medium. I'll show you exactly what I've done in the past:

Gather up your favourite die(s) and cut away your favourite shapes. In this case, I wanted to make a spring scene and wanted puffy clouds as my background. To create a stencil, I will use the negative space instead of the usual positive space (the cut out cloud).

I continued to build my stencil by creating multiple clouds in the sky. I put the small puffy cloud overlapping the large one because I wanted to build a bigger cloud.

The next step is to ensure that your stencil is adhered to your background as well as to a craft mat or something that you're not worried about getting dirty. I simply used washi tape so that I could easily peel it back without fuss.

As I mentioned above, I wasn't sure about the stenciling hype and the embossing paste medium so I have not purchased embossing paste yet! What I use is called spackle and it's what you'd use to fill holes in your wall! This particular brand is called "Fast 'N Final - Lightweight filler." I saw the original tutorial by Maggie here.

Grab a palette knife and spread the spackle evenly across the stencil.

After a few minutes of leaving it to try, I slowly peeled the stencil away from the background. Make sure you do this slowly!

Here is the finished embossing paste clouds... I left my clouds uneven so that they were puffier. Below is my completed project using YNS Pinwheel dies as well as the Happy Day Sentiments. Keeping it really CAS.

If this technique is new to you, I hope that I've inspired you to use your dies and make stencils from them! If you give it a try, please link up. Any questions, please drop them below and I'll get back to you. Thanks for stopping in today.

-->Hi, I currently live in Northern Kentucky with my husband of many years and our 14 year old grandson Hunter. I am a mom to four amazing children and a grandma to 6 beautiful grandsons and 2 grand-daughters. I´ve been crafting for as long as I can remember, dabbing in almost everything I could. I started with scrapbooking 18 years ago, then my oldest daughter shared the joy of stamping with a Stamping party and that was when I found my love of making cards. About 6 years ago, I enter the world of digital images and truly love the versatility they allow to be so creative with. I love altering different things, creating mini albums and creating one-of-a-kind gifts. I have met so many incredible & wonderful ladies through the blogging & stamping world, I am having the time of my life!!! I am so honored to be joining the YNS Digital Team and playing along with these amazing digital images YNS offers.
Jackie's Blog is: Paper Moments

Please help us welcome Jackie to the YNS digi team!! :)

Have a great day!

Getting The Most From Our Dies Part 5!

Hello! Kerri here with another way to use your YNS Dies:) You can use dies not only to cut out shapes, but also to emboss! Today I used the fabulous Insta Love Polaroid Die Set to create a CAS card.

First tape the die to the area of paper you'd like to emboss with the cutting edges face up away from the paper.

I use the Big Shot for my die cutting/embossing. To emboss I open to Tab 1 and add a cutting plate.

Place the die cut taped to the paper face down with the cutting surface down towards the cutting plate.

Add an embossing mat over the top of your paper.

Then add your second cutting plate.

Run it through the machine to emboss!

I stamped a sentiment from the YNS set Moving Ellie over the raised area and here is my card.

Love that sentiment! Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful Wednesday!

Hello! My name is Kerri Michaud and I’m a stay at home mom to 3 kiddos ages 7, 5, and 2! We currently live in Apopka, Florida which is just outside of Orlando. I got into stamping about 2 years ago after I had my first Stampin’ Up party. I was instantly hooked LOL! Before then I had dabbled in scrapbooking, crocheting, sewing, quilting, jewelry making, and whatever other crafty whims that came my way. I think I have found my true passion in stamping and card making though! I also LOVE to make altered items and little gift boxes, etc. I am soooo excited and honored to be part of the Senior DT for Your Next Stamp! I ADORE these darling images and just love working with Karen and the rest of the DT!

We live in the Shuswap, part of the Northern Okanagan in beautiful British Columbia. Angel Rivera

Angel Rivera
Designer
My name is Angel and I’ve been stamping for over 8 years! I also scrapbook from time to time, but prefer making cards or other little projects. I try to escape to my craft room as often as my 3 boys (ages 16, 12 and 10) and all of their extra activities allow! My husband of 19 years, Derek, is supportive of my crafty time because he knows it makes me happy. I also work full time with a wealth management company and am a licensed life and health insurance agent. I’m so excited to be working with Karen and ALL of the YNS crew!

Bonnie Kohane

Bonnie Kohane
Designer
I am a second generation SAHM, which i call SAHGM. ("G" for grandma). I have been watching my grandkids for 7 yrs. I am also going through a second generation of crafting, i have a scrapbook that is almost 60yrs old filled with all of my favorite memories. I've been featured in Stamper's Sampler..more of an artsy card magazine...but my style tends to be "cute". Card crafting isn't the only thing i like to do, if i am not working on cards, you'd see me working at my sewing machine, crocheting or trying any new craft technique out there.. i love a challenge..which brings me to say..i can't wait to see what you all create for the YNS challenges!

My main love of course, is Paper Crafting, specifically card making. I also like to sew, bead and crochet and teach others how to show thier creative sides. I am so honored and privileged to be joining such and awesome group of ladies here at YNS, I can’t wait to get started and share all my creations with you!!

Deborah Anton

Deborah Anton
Designer
My name is Deborah Anton and I am a stay at home mom to 11 year old twin boys and a wife of 12 years to a patient, loving, and awesome Army Officer. I am originally from California but currently live in Tennessee. I keep pretty busy just on the home-front with my active boys playing different sports, moving every few years, and volunteering with the Army. But in the little "me" time I do get, I love to do anything crafty and hide in my craft room!! I started out 11 years ago designing and creating jewelry for 2 large retailers, which led me to having my own business; until 8 years ago when I met designer paper and glue. A new love relation began! I am so excited to be part of the YNS team and work alongside so many talented ladies!

Jen Roach

Jen Roach
Designer
My name is Jennifer and I live in Ontario, Canada with my husband and 3 year old daughter. I'm a scientist by day and a paper crafter by night ---or really just about any free time I have including my lunch breaks at work!!

I started out in paper crafting back in about 2002 when my Mom and I took a scrapbooking class together. A few years later I decided to give card making a try and it's been my passion ever since. I'm the world's slowest scrapbooker so the instant gratification of card making really won me over. Over the years I have used more and more stamping in my designs and I love learning and trying new techniques and styles.

I would probably define myself as a "scrappy stamper". I *LOVE* patterned paper and most of my cards have lots of it with added layered on embellishments and textures. My cards may not be easy to mail but boy are they pretty!!

Other than crafting, I love to play tennis as you can probably tell from my blog address:

Julie Elak

Julie Elak
Designer
Hi, I am Julie Elak, aka "The Last Minute Crafter". My days are kept busy working full time and running after my children. I use almost every free minute to craft, my purse is typically full of copics and a pari of scissors. I began stamping well over 10 years ago, but my love for paper crafting found renewed energy once I discovered the online community in 2009. I started a blog on a whim and am so happy I did. I have made many friendships and found so much support and encouragement on-line.

Laura Nehring

Laura Nehring
Designer
My name is Laura, and I am SO excited and honored to be joining the Your Next Stamp Team! I am a former preschool/kindergarten teacher, now stay at home mom to 3 energetic kiddos - 5 year old twin girls, and a 4 year old boy. I met my husband the year I graduated from highschool, and we've been together ever since. We are enjoying life in sunny southern California, where we were both born and raised.

I started scrapbooking in 2006 when I was pregnant with my girls, which led me to stamping and cardmaking a few years later. The point of no return was when I purchased my first Copic marker at a local scrapbook expo 2 years ago... now I'm hooked! I LOVE to color, and it's how I unwind at the end of a busy day! My card making style is fairly clean and simple... I like for the images to be the focus of my creations, so I don't do a lot of embellishing. In addition to Copics, I am also completely obsessed with Kraft Cardstock, and polka dots! I am really looking forward to being a part the YNS team!

Nicole Nastali

Nicole Nastali
Designer
Hi! I’m a former kindergarten teacher who is now a stay at home mom to my 2 little girls. My hubby is supportive of all my crafty pursuits and that says a lot about him because I love all kinds of crafts from making headbands, bows, & designing dresses to making party favors and now cards!! I am a newcomer on the stamping scene and have met so many wonderful crafting friends already thanks to the common joy of card making and coloring with Copic markers. I would color all day long if my family would let me…!! Lol! My favorite colors are the blue greens (affectionately called the BG’s) and I try to sneak them into every card I make!! I love to get crafty with my girls (ages 8 & 6) and let them color images right along side me. It’s a fun hobby for us all to share!! A sleepover stamp from YNS was one of my very first stamp purchases & I’ve been in love with Fhiona & friends ever since!! I’m thrilled to be joining the YNS Team with this group of fabulously talented ladies & I can’t wait to share my cards with you!!

Ruza Rebel

Ruza Rebel
Designer
I'm a former Administrative Assistant turned stay-at-home mom to a very special young lady. I've been crafting since I was a young child, and when I became a SAHM I turned to crafting to stay busy. Staying busy making cards, altering items, and just having fun with paper is an amazing hobby that I truly fell in love with. I'm very grateful that I have a husband that supports me, that my son loves seeing my creations as well, and my special young lady enjoys getting into my crafts. I truly love the challenge of making something beautiful with the various products available to the crafting industry. That is why I am super excited to share my projects featuring the amazing YNS Digital Stamps, and I look forward to seeing your creations as well!

Sheila Veitch

Sheila Veitch
Designer
I was borne and grew up in a small town Canada. I started paper crafting in the fall of 2007, when I saw a stamping catalogue one of my friends had laying around her home. I took one look through the catalogue and was so excited because I knew I had found my favorite hobby at last! Making Cards. I’m a natural born artist, I completed a graphic arts program in college and worked as an artist for several years a life time ago. I currently work as an office administrator in Toronto where I live with my dog Georgie. Though I absolutely love my job, this hobby is my creative outlet. I believe, the cards I make are like little works of art, expressed from the heart. I find that when I’m making a card for a specific person, I am thinking about that person through the whole process. And that in itself can be the gift.
